The East New Britain Rugby Football Union has been in operation since 1998.
Current president of the ENBRFU, Hubert Minana confirmed that over the years the competition has seen a decrease in the registration of teams.
“We are anticipating a big influx of players this year and we have an abundance of under 15 and under 19 players, waiting to head into the senior grade,” says Minana.
Despite setbacks and the minimal financial support given to the union, the province remains one of the most successful PNGRFU unions, producing a vast majority of PNG Pukpuks, over the years.
Minana says despite the challenges they have faced, the ENBRFU will continue to embrace the code, not only in the Rabaul District, but throughout the entire province.
However, with the assistance of rugby development programs, much like Get into Rugby and Pacific in Union, Minana is confident that ENB’s competition will expand, and continue to produce players for the national Pukpuks team.
