Education Minister Responds to PNG Teachers Association Demands
Yesterday Minister for Education, Nick Kuman responded to demands made by the Papua New Guinea Teachers Association on the three percent pay rise. The Teaching Service Salary Fixation Agreement gives a three percent increase annually for 2017, 2018 and 2019. This equates to a total of nine percent that should have been adjusted to the teachers’ salaries over the last three years, however the government did not budget for it in 2017 and 2018.

Teachers Demand Promised Pay
The Papua New Guinea Teachers Association wants the government to pay the three percent pay rise promised to them according to the Teaching Service Salary Fixation Agreement that was signed between the Council of Public Sectors Union and the government in 2016.The association demanded a response from the government this Friday, or term two classes for primary and secondary schools will be disrupted.

A new approach in cargo management and clearance will be implemented at the Wutung Land Border Port once it opens before the end of the year. Laloki Psychiatric Hospital Shuts Down Operations Due to Reported Hepatitis Cases
The Laloki Psychiatric Hospital this morning shut down its operations, following news of the confirmed 11 hepatitis A cases reported at the hospital. Over 120 mentally ill patients were sent back to their families and hospital staff announced it will not be taking new admissions. Much of the blame has been levelled against the continuous use of bore water at health facility.
