9.7 billion on Earth by 2050, but growth rate slowing, says new UN population report

By the year 2050, there will be some 9.7 billion people living on Earth, says a UN population report released on Monday. However, the overall growth rate will continue to fall, and more countries will have to adapt to the consequences of an aging population. “The World Population Prospects 2019: Highlights”, estimates that the next 30 years will see the global population add an extra 2 billion people to today’s figure of 7.7 billion, and, by the end of the century, the planet will have to sustain around 11 billion.

EU aims for long term climate deal by ‘early 2020’

Talks on a climate plan for 2050 should wrap up by the end of this year in view of final adoption in early 2020, according to the draft conclusions of an EU summit taking place this week in Brussels. EU leaders are set to grant the incoming Finnish EU Presidency a mandate during this week’s summit to ramp up talks on an ambitious plan to make the bloc carbon neutral by 2050.

Muthuvel clarifies Statement made against him by Member for Kandrian-Glouster

Newly appointed Minister for State owned Enterprise, Sasindra Muthuvel, expressed his disappointment over a statement published in one of the local dallies on Friday, June 14, describing it as an unwarranted public attack with baseless allegations made against him by member for Kandrian-Glouster, Joseph Lelang. He said Lelang’s statement was both misleading and highly defamatory; firstly suggesting that Muthuvel was no longer governor and secondly making allegations of corruption to unduly influence the legal process of appointment for a new governor.
