Port Moresby Nature Park now has an Aviary for Eclectus Parrots

For those who love to visit the Port Moresby Nature Park, it now has a new Eclectus Parrot Aviary showcasing one of PNG’s most unique parrots. This is the 9th of 10 aviaries which have been built and opened in the last 8 months. The 10th is a rescue and rehabilitation aviary located off public display and will be completed in the next few weeks.POM Nature Park Manager, Michelle McGeorge said, “This aviary houses our female Eclectus parrots, some of the birds have been rescued or surrendered to the nature park and some were born here. The aviary features interpretation panels that promote the Nature Park’s campaign and raise awareness of the threat to PNG parrots.”

Buk Bilong Pikinini Library Learning Center at Tatana sees 30% Increase in Children Progressing into High School

It’s been six year since the Buk bilong Pikinini’s Library Learning Centre at Tatana had been built and it has had a great impact in the community. The children are achieving much better academic results and Tatana has seen a 30% increase in children progressing into high school.One parent said, “It’s like the whole community has become focused on education –we now have children reading at school and coming home with books to read and study.”

PIH Hosts Ladies Night in Celebration of Mothers Day

While different celebrations were going on all over the world and in PNG for Mother’s Day, Pacific International Hospital hosted a corporate ladies night.Over 50 women gathered to commemorate this day, with the Prime Minister’s wife, Linda Babao O’Neill, gracing the event with her presence.The evening was filled with laughter, women sharing their experiences as mothers and many left feeling empowered.

Homeless Children Receive Clothes and Food – A Generous Act of Kindness that Will go a Long Way

Homeless children living along the Boroko drainage in Port Moresby received a generous gift on Sunday. Kindness, clothes, home-cooked food, drinks and above all, love, will go a long way in these children’s lives, in the years to come.Path finders, youth and members of the Seventh Day Adventist Bomana congregation went to the streets of Boroko on Sunday with one mission, to feed children who had no homes.

Sri Lankan Papua New Guinea Friendship Foundation Show Solidarity

Sri Lankan PNG Friendship Foundation gathered on Sunday for an evening of solidarity, to remember those who died during the horrific acts of terrorism on Easter Sunday, in Sri Lanka.At the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Moresby, the service was filled with moments of silence, choruses and prayers, offered to God in good faith that those who lost their lives are at rest in eternal peace. The small community of Sri Lankans living in Port Moresby, joined by friends, gathered on Sunday evening in solidarity to offer prayers.
