The PNG Electoral Commission and provincial administrators will now partner to plan and conduct the 2017 national election.
The pair signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) today with the Momase region, consisting of East and West Sepik and Madang Province.
This will guide the Electoral Commission and administrators to understand and know their roles and responsibilities during the 2017 general election.
Some of the key activities stated in the MoA are the Commission’s improvement program, roll out maintenance, and awareness and training.
The electoral commission has signed agreements with Jiwaka, Manus, Central, Milne Bay and West New Britain Provinces.
Several workshops have already been conducted to outline the roles and responsibilities.
According to Madang Provincial Administrator, Daniel Aloi, Madang has a bad history, and hopes to deliver a quiet and safe election in 2017.
Meanwhile, the electoral commission is prepared and ready roll out their activities in the provinces, but this will depend on the 2016 budget.
