By Godwin Eki – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Nine senior officers of the Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting received certificates on Wednesday after three weeks of training.

The training is part of upskilling knowledge and expertise of the fire fighters. It is also part of National Airports Corporation’s (NAC) preparations for the 2018 APEC Summit in Port Moresby in November.

The training targeted competence areas including leadership, strategy and tactics, tactical plan, aircraft knowledge, size up, planned training, fire grounds tactics, drills and exercises, turnout procedures and Aerodrome emergency procedure.

Human Resource Manager, Leo Kaptigau says when it comes to emergency procedure in the event of a plane crash, several techniques should be applied when attending to the rescue.

“Basically, this training enables us on how to be able to respond to any emergency of an aircraft whenever there’s an aircraft crash, these officers are now competent to lead the team to address those emergencies immediately”.

This training is an ongoing exercise and is regularly done to refresh the knowledge of all the fire-fighters.

Chief Operating Officer Bob Parkinson alluded that NAC is more focused on regulation training for the Aviation Industry. He says it is also about having all the right gear and planning ahead. The mock emergency drill ended with the senior officers awarded each with certificates.
