Road Link Sealing, Proactive Villagers Cooperate

One community in the highlands for the first time have freed up land and properties for road maintenance and sealing to commence.

The people of Ulya Kurkur in the Anglimp South Waghi electorate want services and unanimously agreed to this decision.

Over four million kina of District Service Improvement Program (DSIP) funds have been made available to seal this 8 kilometer road.

The Ulya Kurkur road is a vital link for more than 20,000 people.

While a gravel road has been some help for them over the years, flooding has been a problem because of the poor drainage and the fact that the road link cuts through water-logged areas.

Local people through their councillors welcomed this long-awaited project and agreed to free up land and properties for work to start immediately.

The contract has been awarded to Pagali Construction, a local company already operating a crusher in the electorate.
