Polye on Much Needed Upgrades to ICT Facilities

State universities have appealed tothe higher education ministry to upgrade information and communication technology facilities.

The Minister responsible, Don Polye, has acknowledged that need.

 

The office of higher education is now making submissions onthe specific needs for the Government’s consideration.

 

As technology continues to be an integral part of society’s daily activities,the education system has recognizedthe potential of increased learning and teaching through information and communication technology.

 

State-run tertiary institutions aroundthe country are working towards stepping uptheir ICT facilities, but need urgent government assistance. Their calls tothe higher education ministry have been heard.

 

The annual 4000 enrolments in ICT related feilds each year means a significant contribution inthe country’s human resource.

 

Thus, better resources to produce a highly skilled and trained workforce are needed.

 

ICT facilities include hardware that come with fundamentals to broadenthe scope of learning, research and teaching.

 

Meantime, plans to establish a university inthe highlands region is progressing.

 

The university will offer technical skills courses similar tothe University of Technology andthe University of Natural Resources and Environment.
