Meri Seif Haus in trouble itself

In the Morobe Province, the safe haven in Lae for battered women is itself in trouble.

The “Meri Seif Haus” has had no assistance and does not have back up facilities to help those in need.

Yet the Haus has been the refuge for female victims of domestic violence.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Fund for Population Activities has partnered with The Family and Sexual Violence Unit of the Royal PNG Constabulary to help women in PNG.

K270, 000 was given to the police to set up a data base system on gender violence in the country.

Acting Police Commissioner Simon Kauba said new police recruits will go through gender based violence training to know how best to address this issue.
