Reconciliation Between UPNG Administration and Students Set for Tomorrow

Acting Chancellor, Dr Nicholas Mann, when contacted, said that he and VC had met with the Minister of Higher Education Malakai Tabar and Secretary David Kavanamur before speaking with students.

Mann said that he and Secretary Kavanamur had gone to UPNG to meet with students this afternoon, but students had dispersed and they will meet with students tomorrow for a reconciliation ceremony.

He said Police will be present on campus.

Meanwhile, NCD and Central Commander, Sylvester Kalaut, told EMTV that police were cautious with the students due to what happened between police and students on June 8.

He said that they had talked with students at the roadblock that was set up by students, and managed to calm the situation. The students had return back to the campus forum to await the Vice Chancellor to speak with them.

We asked if students were in breach of the court order that restricted the SRC or students from preventing other students from returning to class would be arrested or not.

Commander Kalaut said the matter has been left to the UPNG administration to deal with their students.

Kalaut also said if students do invite police at the reconciliation ceremony that is now planned to happen tomorrow, RPNGC will attend.
