The Papua New Guinea Defense Force has released the identity of the soldier killed, following the car accident in Port Moresby last weekend.
PNG Defence Force Chief of Staff, Captain Philip Polewara, identified the deceased as late Private Newton Kuri.
Kuri and three colleagues were involved in an accident at Hohola and subsequently attacked by unknown persons at the scene. He later died of injuries at the hospital
Following news of his passing, members of the PNGDF burned several stores in the vicinity.
However, Captain Polewara condemned their actions and said the military police will assist police to investigate the matter.
Kuri leaves behind a wife and son.
