EU Deal Finally Signed

The Financial Agreement on the European Union funding of K340 million kina for the Support to Rural Entrepreneurship, Investment and Trade Project or STREIT Program has been signed in Port Moresby today.   The funding is for agricultural activities specifically to assist Cocoa and Vanilla growers including Fisheries project in East Sepik, two districts of West Sepik, Madang and Milne Bay provinces.

Bougainville vote no ‘problem’ for Australia

BUKA, 21 JUNE 2019 (AAP)—Australia will work to ensure the integrity of the Bougainville referendum later this year, and won’t cast judgment on the result, Foreign Minister Marise Payne says. The autonomous region, which has a population the size of Hobart, is due to have a referendum on whether to become independent in October.

9.7 billion on Earth by 2050, but growth rate slowing, says new UN population report

By the year 2050, there will be some 9.7 billion people living on Earth, says a UN population report released on Monday. However, the overall growth rate will continue to fall, and more countries will have to adapt to the consequences of an aging population. “The World Population Prospects 2019: Highlights”, estimates that the next 30 years will see the global population add an extra 2 billion people to today’s figure of 7.7 billion, and, by the end of the century, the planet will have to sustain around 11 billion.
