Athletes did well at Iowa

PNG’s athletes inthe USA have hitthe ground running astheIndoor Track season got underway atthe Iowa State University inthe city of Ames.

Sharon Kwarula was in great form clocking 9.06 seconds inthe heats ofthe sixty meters hurdles andthen running 8.93 seconds inthe final which was a big improverment on her best time last year of 9.15 seconds.

Teammate Wala Gime ran 8.44 seconds inthe men’s sixty meters hurdles compared to his best time of 8.71 seconds last year. 

Cecilia Kumalalamene ran 3min 06.79’s econds for the one thousand meters race, just three seconds faster than her time atthe same competition last year. 

Meanwhile Sapolai Yao was also in action running 16 minutes and 02.83 seconds for the five thousand meters.

Yao is expected to be in action again this weekend at Mankato, Minnesota along with hin PNG team mate Paul Pokana who arrived in Iowa last week.
