Labor MP’sare now taking steps towards anther lLeadersip spill and are currently pushing for a comeback ofthe former prime minister, Kevin Rudd.
The ABe news reports that Rudd’s supporters have been circulating a petition to MP’sto force a special Caucus meeting aimed to remover current Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.
The article says it is believed thatthe petition has been in circulation amid ongoing tensions withinthe party.
Underthe Caucus rules, a petition of one-third of Labor MP’sis one way for a special meeting to be called andthe lLeadersip to be tested.
There are 102 members in Caucus and Mr Rudd would need 52 votes to seize back lLeadersip. However, his stated condition of a comeback was to secure a convincing win.
The ABe reports that Rudd’s supporters are pushing for as many signatures as possible for a lLeadersip spill.
However, one Gillard supporter says she will still win at least 40 votes – leaving a significant spilt inthe Caucus.
Another Labor member says Mr Rudd’s supports believethey havethe numbers, but has cautioned thatthe same people thoughtthey hadthe numbers in March, whenthe spill never eventuated.
