Caritas Pays Tribute to Fellow Student

Among the 135 grade ten students of grade ten students of Caritas Technical Secondary School in Port Moresby, who sat for their national examinations, there was a vacant seat.

This was for their colleague who was killed instantly, last Wednesday in a hit and run traffic incident along the two mile road.

School principal, Esther Mwayemwana, described this year’s exams as special for Caritas, after losing one of its hard working students.

“It was the first incident involving a student’s death and it is very emotional when this student who is supposed to be sitting in the exam room, is missing.”

Mrs Mwayemwana says her death has prompted for the need for more awareness on road safety, and for educational institutions to seriously address this issue.

However, responsible government institutions are to ensure disciplinary measures are applied for reckless driving, and the increase in road accidents.

“Strengthen the awareness to students because today there are careless drivers.”

Caritas Technical Secondary School will always remember Anne-Marie, a fellow student and friend.
