Inmates Visit Students

Students and staff of St Paul’s Primary School in Lae yesterday had a visit from the inmates from Buimo Prison.

The inmates encouraged the students to take education seriously, and refrain from involving themselves in illegal activities.

A drama depicting the story behind the imprisonment of a young inmate, Dwight Martin, brought tears to the students as they watched attentively.

Martin was sentenced to 15 years in prison for murder, as a result of taking part in a school fight.

A mother and inmate, Cathy Willie, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison says getting the chance to get out and see the students is just like getting the chance to see her children again.

After the presentation of items by the inmates, St Paul’s Primary School donated boxes of goods including soap and baby diapers for those inmates at the prison living with babies.

Kolem Towal, the head boy for St Paul’s says what was prepared and presented by the inmates was a blessing of encouragement to the students.
