Finding an effective way to deliver much needed services has always been a challenge in Papua New Guinea
Bet Development Partners say that’s about to change asthey forge partnerships withtheWorld Bank anPNG Sustainable Development and Department of Provincial & Local Government Affairs.
Togtherthey launched a three year pilot project that will see community projects trialed in Western and Central Provinces.
The three year pilot project was launched this morning atthe Kitpeng Beilding that housesthe Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs.
This project will allow community groups to choose a project that will benefitthe majority.
As development partners sat through a PowerPoint presentation onthe projectoit’seems good intheory butthey were questioned onthe accessibility and whther local people would understandthe requirements set byWorld Bank.
As locals will be asked to upload day to day progress ofthe projects,theWorld Bank Project Management Team was asked whther special training will be given andthe application forms will be simpliflied to allow easy access.
ThPNG Rural Services Delivery and Local Governance Program come in three components.
It aims to promote community ownership of projects. It’s an attempt to improverthe non-functioning service delivery mechanism that has deprived rural areas from much needed services.
