Climate Change Affecting Food Security

Climate Change is affecting people’s livelihoods and has had a direct impact on the Agriculture sector in Papua New Guinea.

This is causing a concern on the food security of the country.

Many organisations are working to address this issue and one of which is the Food and Agriculture organization (FAO) which has come up with strategies to address climate change and its effects on food security.

According to the Head of the FAO in PNG, Ken Shimizu, they are implementing a variety of programs to strengthen the capacity and provide support in policy formulation to help farmers in the country.

Another policy initiative FAO is working on is the development and implementation of a national e-agriculture strategy.

The question however still remains as to how soon can this be fully implemented to benefit farmers in PNG.
