After more than a year, ballot papers used in the 2017 National General Elections in the Kabwum district, Morobe Province, were burnt this week.

District Administrator Fidelis Harisol, who was also the Returning officer in the district said there were no disputed returns or appeals against the elected member, and the papers were supposed to be burned after 6 months.

However, the ballot papers were burnt in the presence of police officers.

Mr. Harisol said the papers were destroyed to prepare the office for the LLG elections.

He also said there needs to be training done for appointed officers, towards the LLG elections.
