PORT MORESBY, July 11 – The final of the men’s Olympic qualifying soccer tournament between New Zealand and Fiji will take centre stage as the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games goes into week two on Sunday.
Men’s tournament favourites New Zealand struggled in the first half of their semifinal against Vanuatu before scoring two goals in the second half to progress to Sunday’s game.
The two teams will face-off against each other for a place at Rio 2016 at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium at 18:00.
Rugby league 9s will see its second and final day of action with the gold medal match taking place at the BSP Stadium at 16:00.
Papua New Guinea’should give the defending champions Fiji its toughest challenge of the tournament.
Both teams go undefeated into Sunday’s games.
Fiji and Guam will play for top honours in men’s basketball at the PNG Power Dome at 15:00, while PNG will challenge Tahiti in the bronze medal game at 13:00.
The men and women’slated to compete in the 5km open water swim will be hoping that Port Moresby’s weather clears up before their 06:00 start Loloata.
In day two of volleyball, the men’s and women’s preliminaries will continue at the BSP Arena from 09:00.
