PORT MORESBY, July 10 – Rugby league 9s makes its return to the Pacific Games on Saturday after an eight-year hiatus while volleyball will also see its first action at Port Moresby 2015.

Six teams will play a round-robin rugby league 9s tournament at BSP Stadium with the medal matches scheduled for Sunday.

Fiji will kick off the extraVa’anza against Samoa at 12:00.

Defending champions, Fiji, are likely to be PNG’s toughest challengers at Port Moresby 2015.

In volleyball, Fiji lead the way against Nauru in men’s pool B while Kiribati play New Caledonia women’s pool A. Both matches will start at 09:00 at BSP Arena.

New Caledonia and Tahiti are the traditional powerhouses in Pacific Games volleyball, but the more recent results of Wallis and Futuna and Papua New Guinea mean they can be considered wild cards.

Saturday will see a very busy day as athletes will also be competing in 10 other sports including the final day for three: va’a (2 gold medals), sailing (6 gold medals) and shooting (1 gold medal).

It is also the final day of women’s cricket with medal matches being played at Bisini Grounds. The men’s cricket begins on Tuesday at the same venue.
