Lae Police have shot and killed wanted criminal, Timson Bruce also known as Whitee, and caught four of his accomplices and his wife on Saturday after police intercepted his wife and two other men who were on their way to meet the criminal.
Commander Wagambie says, from the information, the members of the special operation have gathered and went to the criminals hideout located at the back of Munum and Nasuapum villages along the Markham Highway.
He is believed to have also issued threats to police and the community after police had intercepted and apprehended members of his gang.
The criminals were armed when police raided their hideout where Timson was armed with a .38 pistol. Police then recovered six bullets and the pistol from the criminal. One of his four accomplices was also injured.
The criminal was wanted by police for a series of armed robberies in the city. He was also involved in the Pelgens Eriku Supermarket armed robbery where police were engaged in a shoot out at the West Taraka settlement.
He is also wanted for an armed hold up at Bulolo; and also the robbery and stealing of a police-issued firearm at a logging camp based at the border of Morobe and Oro province.
Wagambie is making another call to relatives of other known criminals on the run to surrender to police.
There are a number of known criminals who were injured in the shootout still living in the city and are being assisted by police.
The four accomplices and the wife of the deceased are now detained in police cells and are being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Division before formal charges are laid.
