UPNG: Ungraded student transcripts cause worry

by Eric Haurupma – EM TV, Port Moresby

University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) students arrived early on campus due to administrative reasons.

Students said it’s been a tradition that their transcripts are never ready on time. Students’ grades in their transcripts are still pending marks.

UPNGstudents have been gathering at the campus administration area to sort out academic matters.

They said because their grades have not being graded on time, their academic statuses are being affected.

Jack Kalis, a fourth year’student, said students are usually not considered for government’scholarships and are unable to graduate because of ungraded marks.

However, they said it is within the capacity of the administration to rectify this problem. Students said sorting out this issue quickly will hinder the progress of their studies or cause uncertainties for them in the future.

Although acceptance letters have been sent out, first year’students from other provinces in PNG have had to travel to school to receive them.

First year’student Marty Ranji said because they have not received their acceptance letters on time, they have been forced to travel early to UPNG.

Meanwhile, students are adamant that the administration must sort out this issue before the academic year.
