Eligible Voters of Finschhafen District Miss Out on Voter Registration Due to Shortage of Forms

Eligible Voters of Finschhafen District in Morobe have missed out on the voter registration due to shortage of forms.

A team leader of the Yabim Mape area in the District says, the names of 3,000 people from the area are not on the updated Common Roll.

The Electoral Commission Office of Morobe is currently having a meeting to find solutions to this concern.

Finschhafen District received their updated common roll last week.

The field officers in charge of updating the enrolments last year, realised that over 3,000 eligible voters had missed out.

This was so due to shortage of original enrolment forms from the Electoral Commission Office.

Maby said the Electoral Commission should have provided more forms to cater for the population in the area.

She called on the office to sort out the issue quickly, before writs open on the 20th of this month.

The Morobe Electoral Commission says it is aware of the situation and is working closely to find a solution.

Currently, there are 4.8 million eligible voters in PNG, 700,000 added brings the figure to 5.5 million total voters.

Officers of Morobe Electoral Commission are consulting on a supplementary roll for the Commissioner’s approval, as a solution to the concern.
