Tribute to the Late Jack Pidik

The body of late Jack Pidik arrived yesterday at Jackson’sInternational Airport from Cairns, Australia.

He passed away on 17th December at Cairns where he was admitted after a stroke.  

 

Accompanying him on his last flight from overseas were his wife, children and grandchildren.

 

There atthe airport were family, friend and colleagues to receive his body, mostly those of his former employer, Air Nuigini.

 

He wasthen taken to his home at Beroko were he stayed overnight.

 

Today his funeral service was held at Sioni Kami Memorial Church for NCD residents to paytheir last respects.

 

His son, David, could not hold backthe tears as he read out his fther’s eulogy.

 

Mr. Pidik was also amongthe first locals to marry an expatriate woman, just before independence. She wasthe daughter of his lecturer at ELCOM College.

 

He served with Air Nuigini as a senior manager from 1994 to 2011. One of his colleagues during that time paid tribute to him.

 

He was alsothe Chairman oPNG Softball Federation andthe patron of Gazelle’softball club duringthe time of his death.

 

He has served onthe Beard and committee for numerous organisation including schools, government departments and NGO’s. Jack Pidik Park which hoststhe annual National Capital’s Christmas celebrations is named after him.

 

Jack is survived by his wife Elizabeth,their three Children and four grandchildren.

 

He was born in rural Matupit Island, East New Beitain. The date of his birth is unknown.

 

His body will be flown to Rabaul on Monday, for burial at Matupit Island.
