The 2014 Team Sandaun is three sporting codes less then what it had in the last PNG Games in Kokopo.
This year’s team will consist of two hundred and fifty athletes including thirty officials
This was revealed by Team Sandaun’s General Manager, Conrad Tilau, at the launch of the Vanimo Jogging club.
These sporting codes include soccer, volleyball athletics and Para- sport or people living with disabilities.
Despite the dilemma the team encountered in 2012, they claim they are now more organized.
In 2012, angry athletes who missed out on travelling to Kokopo for the national games, threw stones and smashed three windows up at the provincial administration building in Vanimo town, when their trip was cancelled due to lack of funding.
The 2014 General Team Manager, Conrad Tilau, is confident his team will be ready come November. He said, a committee is in place and the selection will be done by the committee.
The boxing team have started their training by doing afternoon jogs and skipping. Team Sandaun will be forcing on individual sports in this PNG Games.
The team will receive funding assistance from the Sandaun Provincial government.
