Statistics vital for development

Papua New Guineacannot achieve its development plans without proper statistical records.           

 

Acting Secretary for Community Development Anna Solomon said data allows proper planning and this is one ofthe department’s key role underthe Civil Registry Office.

Ms Solomon says civil registrations are important because it capturesthe information required for any developmental activities ofthe government like elections.

 

Legal documents such as birth and death certificates are indicators tothe type of service provided.

 

Currentlythere’s no proper data in place as Waigani housesthe civil registry office. The department plans to establish itself atthe provincial and district level.

 

 

Ms Solomon also pointed out that individuals sometimes take advantage and steal fromthe public pursefor their own benefit.

 

Meanwhile Ms Solomon has called onthe National Government to fully supportthe Community Development Department.
