Papua New Guinea has been given an excellent opportunity to grow the sports tourism sector, through the staging of the country’s maiden global tournament, the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The 2015 Pacific Games set the momentum for many events to follow, and the World Cup, is the first of many global sporting events Papua New Guinea will push to host.
In just under two years, host nation of the 2016 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, Papua New Guinea, has proven itself, worthy of hosting a global tournament.
In the coming days, the 15 participating nations will enter the country; over 21 international journalists will be in Port Moresby for the event. There is an expected audience of over 124 million television viewers from 100 countries watching the tournament.
With the countdown to the FIFA Under 20 women’s world cup already underway, team Venezuela were the first to touch down in Port Moresby early yesterday morning, with the first match scheduled to begin on Sunday 13 November.
