Sports Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, has praised Pacific Sprint Queen and PNG’s very own, Toea Wisil.
Toea qualified for RIO Olympics in the 100 metres sprint at the Melanesian Athletics Championship in Fiji last week.
She is the only PNG athlete who qualified on merit for RIO in athletics; the others will be announced at the end of this month.
Minister Tkatchenko says PNG is proud of Toea Wisil’s achievement and has congratulated the Sprint Queen .
Wisil, who attended the Melanesian Athletics Championship, after breaking Mae Koime’s National Record last month, will now be PNG’s hope in Rio as she goes up against some of the world’s best athletes.
Tkatchenko gave full support for the PNG Contingent.
He says, this is something the country should be proud of and urged everyone to give 100% support.
Meanwhile, the Minister adds, “it is very important that we get an idea of who’s going for the Olympics sooner, rather than later, so it gives certainty to our athletes”.
The PNG Olympics Committee will be announcing the finalised contingent at the end of the month.
