By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The call to investigate a possible misconduct in office of the Parliament Speaker follows the reform plan of the National Parliament.

The Catholic Professionals Society who filed the report said there is evidence to suggest the Speaker, Theo Zurenouc, has used his position to pursue a private religious view and belief, to bring in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible.

Possible amendments to the constitution is what the association want the Ombudsman Commission to investigate, as president of the Catholic Professionals Society, Paul Harricknen said the reforms in parliament is seen as altering the freedom of religion in the country.

“Speaker’s intention if he is to proceed through to the end to bring about that amendment on the freedom of religion, then we are oppose to that,” Harricknen said.

They have also issued a constitutional challenge in the supreme court to inform the Ombudsman to issue directions under their powers to restrain the speaker from pursuing the reform agenda until investigations are complete.
