In a news conference today, the Enga Governor called for an audit into the organisation’s books.
Sir Ipatas made this statement following the threat by Porgera Development Authority (PDA) Management to shut down its operations after rumors of funding issues.
He believes that the Enga Provincial Government has not influenced or manipulated operations of PDA. However, he says the recent threat by PDA Management to shut down is suspicious.
Governor Ipatas is calling on the National Government to carry out the audit. Sir Ipatas says the recent actions by PDA management and the threat over financial constraints is not right and says an audit must be carried out.
The Porgera Development Authority was established as an Act to be a vehicle for development reasons in the Porgera Valley using benefits from the Porgera Mine. The Enga Provincial Government allocates 15 % of its budget since PDA was established and more than K139 million in funding were parked under PDA’s account.
Attempts by EMTV News to get comments from PDA Board Members were unsuccessful.
