Simbu To Host National Literacy Week

By Fabian Hakalits – EMTV Port Moresby

Simbu Province has been named as the host of this year’s National Literacy Week, following an announcement from the National Literacy and Awareness Secretariat.

The theme for this year’s National Literacy Week is ‘Quality Literacy, Quality Education’.

According to National Literacy and Awareness Secretariat, Libraries and Archives Director, Emmanuel Jonduo, this year’s theme reflects literacy as being a paramount key to education in Papua New Guinea.

Jonduo said that Simbu has been preparing for this event since the bid was awarded to them. Education authorities in the province have taken a serious step forward in preparing for this event.

Education officers from the provincial to district level have been working tirelessly to make it a memorable event for all those who will be in attendance.

The National Literacy and Awareness Secretariat urged all schools nationwide to celebrate in meaningful ways.

National Literacy Week is from September 7-11.
