The Sydney Roosters hung on for a 19–14 win over the St George Illawarra Dragons in last night’s Monday night football match.
Rooster, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, had an outstanding performance; grabbing two tries and moving one try ahead of club legend Bill Mullins, and now sits in second all-time behind Anthony Minichiello with 105 tries.
The Roosters took the lead early in the match with a penalty. But the dragons replied four minutes later with a try to Peter Mata’utia.
However it didn’t take long for the Roosters to cross the line when Shaun Kenny-Dowall scored just minutes later.
The Roosters extended their lead in the 27th minute when Kane Evans charged over from close range.
Just before half time the Dragons grabbed a penalty and went into the break with a 14-8 lead.
The Roosters were first to draw blood in the second half through Kenny-Dowall. But the Dragons struck back with a fantastic team try which Gareth Widdop finished off perfectly.
The Roosters sealed the game with a field goal late in the game to see them victorious 19 points to 14.
