The Kandep Development Authority has released K2 million to assist 72,000 people affected by the frost.
Kandep MP and Opposition Leader, Don Polye, held an urgent meeting over the weekend and released the funds that will go towards assisting the affected people.
Mr Polye during the meeting instructed officers from the district to immediately make available food supplies to the affected people.
The funds released will be used to purchase mainly rice, flour and cooking oil among other store goods.
The Kandep District Development Authority under the leadership of Mr Polye then endorsed the formation of a Frost Relief Committee which will raise funds to assist the affected people.
The newly formed relief committee headed by a priest will have a bank account where donor agencies and those willing to assist will deposit straight into the account.
Mr Polye who personally visited the affected district over the weekend expressed concern over the plight of the people.
He urged the national government to immediately dispatch its officers to conduct study on the extent of the damage so to provide assistance.
