RAMU NiCo, the country’s world-class nickel/cobalt mine developer in Madang province is observing the World Environment Day at all its three sites, namely Kurumbukari Mine, Basamuk Refinery and its Madang Base Office with a number of educational activities.
Its activities are centered around the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) theme “Green Economy: Does It Include You?”
Ramu NiCo’s aim is to promote educational, environmental, sustainable and economical awareness to enhance employees, the general public and villages to participate in being self-reliant when toiling the land to reap benefits from it.
Ramu NiCo’s Chief Technical Director, Dr. James Wang in his official address yesderday during the opening of the World Environment Week for the company, stressed the importance of environment to the staff at all the sites and encourage them to have a strong sense of responsibility to the environment during their course of work.
He added that it is everyone’s duty to minimize the risks toward the environment.
Moreover, he stated that the Company will enhance ongoing communication with other stakeholders including NGO’s in addressing certain misunderstandings concerning the environment.
Ramu NiCo’s objective is to reach as many people to promote educational environmental awareness and deliver to the community the company’s ongoing environmental awareness campaigns, sustainable and economical campaigns and ongoing environmental monitoring during Ramu NiCo’s operation.
Commencing on Tuesday, June 5 (today) the Madang Office will be hosting several activities which will see educational institutions within Madang town paying a visit to the Ramu NiCo Madang Base to participate in the organized environmental awareness programs.
The program will continue on the Kurumbukari and Basamuk sites with community awareness programs and environmental team doing sites inspections.
