Police Policy Lacking Says Minister Atiyafa

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Police Minister, Robert Atiyafa, has told parliament the force has no proper policy guideline.

Minister Atiyafa said the Police Management Act currently used must be abolished.

Atiyafa regrettably told parliament the force has been acting upon the Police Management Act over the past 40 years. He said crime and lawlessness were on the rise and that the force is struggling to address this at once.

He revealed this when Kairuku-Hiri MP, Peter Isoaimo, questioned the duration of police officers across stations in his district and parts of the country.

And, like other government departmen’s, the Police Minister’said funding remains a challenge for the force to perform its operations.

“Funding has been a major hiccup in all our operations,” said Atiyafa.

Meanwhile, the Police Minister’said the force is now under immense pressure due to a decrease in the number of investigative officers.
