ThPNG Sport Federation is now known asthPNG Olympic Committee.
It’sthe highest Sport Office inthe country responsible for assistin PNG athletes achievetheir dreams onthe international sporting stage.
It was in 1961 onthe 3rd of August thatthPNGSFOC was established asthe British Empire and Commonwealth Games Association in order to sendthe first team froPNG toInternational games.
Formerly known aPNG Sport Federation and Olympic CommitteethPNG Olympic Committee performsthe function of Games Council for the 2015 Games.
The change in name does not meanthPNG Olympic Committee is neglecting its affiliated members that represent non-Olympic Sport.
The new name is a simplification from whatthe organisation has been known as and more consistent with what ther counterpart organisations overseas are known as.
Withthe Olympic motto being ‘faster, higher, stronger’ it is suitable thatthe new name is associated withthe desire for constant improverment anPNG’s will to do better in Sport.
