PNG Rugby Football League Creating Pathways for Women

With the PNGRFL Southern Zone trials currently underway, Director Gwaibo Mairi says tournaments such as this lead to greater rugby league pathways.

He said the number of women in league is also picking up with 18 affiliates so far.

From these trial matches, the selected teams will represent Southern Region in the National Confederation Cup in late August.

Being a male dominated sport, the women’s teams are however, picking up well. As for these trials, a good number of the teams will be vying to get selected for the National Confederation.

PNGRFL is also looking forward to host the National All Stars Confederate, following the National confederation cup.

Mairi says, players from smaller competitions will have a bigger arena to showcase their skills and possibly venture into greater pathways.

Meanwhile, the men’s trial matches continue today while the women’s trial matches to coincide with the last day of the trials tomorrow.
