Pari village to get water supply after 15 years wait

In six weeks’ time, Pari village along the Motuan coastline will be connected to the city’s water supply.

Local MP, Member for Moresby-South and Minister for Sport, Pacific Games and National Events Hon. Justin Tkatchenko is adamant for Pari village to get clean water after 15 years wait.

Former Moresby-South MP, Dame Carol Kidu before retiring paid K1.8 million to connect water to the village but the contractor that was engaged and its affiliates failed to fully implement the project.

Despite the contractor being paid in full, Minister Tkatchenko said the project was only 35% done.

He told the villagers during his visit last week that Eda Ranu commissioned report stated that they had no consultation whatsoever with the contractor and that the contractor was not capable and qualified to do the job.

Minister Tkatchenko added that this report has shown that there were fraudulent activities going on with the contractor.

Mr Tkatchenko ensured the villagers that the project will be completed before December.

Meantime, NCDC has stepped in with K394, 000 to fund the incomplete water project; while Moresby South Joint District Planning and Budgets Priorities Committee will be paying the balance of the total cost.

Mr Tkatchenko said Eda Ranu will now take the contract to ensure that the job is done correctly.

Meanwhile, NCDC will file a complaint with the police fraud squad to investigate the contractor and its affiliates.
