PNG Mosquitoes Prepare for the International Cup Title

With less than three months to this year’s International Cup title, preparations for the Mosquitoes team are underway, as PNG AFL prepares to host trial matches in both the Island and the Northern zones this weekend.

Senior Operations Manager, Rex Leka, says coaches will start keeping an eye on the performance level of each individual player, so that the best team can be finalised before the competition in August.

After the 2014 win in Melbourne Australia, the team has been keeping up well since then, and now with the season around the corner, for Port Moresby based players, training has become their number one priority.

Leka said PNG AFL will make sure that 2017 will have no barriers for the players, while looking forward to their biggest rivals in, South Africa, New Zealand and Ireland.

After missing out in 2014, the PNG women’s National Team, the Kurakums, will participate in this years International Cup Title, and selections for the team will also take place in April and May before both teams will be finalised to travel.

With the event to start on August 5, selections are expected to take place in the next few weeks.

Leka said the PNG Mosquitoes will go even stronger this year with great confidence level and play hard to defend their 2014 International Cup title.
