Two athletes arrived yesterday in the country after attending the 2016 Rio Olympic in Brazil.
Both athletes, Raymond Ovinou from judo, and Thadius Katua in the code of boxing, arrived in Port Moresby with their coaches, team manager and PNG Olympic Committee representative.
The two arrived to a media welcome at the Jackson’s international airport, where they shared their experience as well as their individual competitions.
Only 18 years of age, and the youngest among the rest of team PNG, Katua described his Olympic experience as a learning curve with more room for improvement.
Judo on the other hand and second time representing PNG at the Olympic games, Ovinuo, said although things didn’t go the way he expected, win or lose he was happy and proud to represent his country, and from his experiences, from both the 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics, his focus now will be on training and working with the young and upcoming raw talents.
For Ovinou, importing his knowledge and experiences to the young talents of PNG will continue, although, he hasn’t said anything about his retirement from judo, while Katua on the other hand, who did his Olympic debut, has only started his Olympic journey, and there’s no doubt there will be more of Katua to be seen and heard of in the future.
The rest of team PNG athletes will be arriving next week before the welcome back dinner can be held in Port Moresby next week.
