The education services of the United Church have been hit hard by insufficient funding from the national government.
The United Church Education Secretary, Dr Colin Loi told EMTV News that this year, they have only received a quarter of its funds, which is less than the K2 million they receive annually.
“This year, we received K170, 000 which is insufficient meaning it cannot cater for schools in their eleven regions,” he said.
Dr Loi said they have sourced funding from outside to support the school’s operation throughout the country.
The United Church is working closely with the Church Partnership Program, to help schools continue to operate under their development unit.
“So far, some of our schools have new infrastructure, highlighting the connection with CPP, through our development unit,”
The national government’s Tuition Fee Free Policy (TFF) came under the microscope of the education conference in Milne Bay Province.
It was discussed that funds were not delivered on time, which has affected the school’s operation.
“Some of our schools, have been affected due to delay of TFF funds to schools, some are at the verge of shutting down,”.
Dr Loi appealed to the national government to ensure that funding is appropriated accordingly.
