Pioneer banker calls time on a distinguished career

By Meriba Tulo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

A pioneer banker has called time on his career that has spanned 45 years.

Bank South Pacific’s General Manager Paramount Banking, Aho Baliki from Eastern Highlands Province, retired this month.

Mr Baliki joined the Commonwealth Banking Corporation in February 1974, just to earn some pocket money, but went on to become Managing Director of the then PNGBC in 1999.

He was further appointed as General Manager Human Resources in the Year 2000 when PNGBC merged with BSP, and subsequently appointed General Manager Paramount Banking in 2002 – a position he held until his retirement this month.

Known as “Mr B” to most BSP staff, he was given a farewell fitting for his tenure at the BSP Head Office in Waigani, Port Moresby, on the 14th of this month, and another in BSP Goroka Branch on 16th January, where he first started his career at the bank.
