PEA Calls on Government to Withdraw Public Servants in Hela and Southern Highlands Province

By Meriba Tulo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Following continuous election-related violence in Hela and Southern Highlands, the Public Employees Association is now calling on the Government to withdraw public servants from these two provinces.

In a media statement, PEA President Robert Kutapai has taken issue with the government’s decision to send in security forces into these two provinces without insurance, whilst public servants in these provinces are also caught up in the violence.

He says recent pictures from the provinces demonstrating the arms build-up is alarming, and as such security personnel and public servants are at great risk if they remain.

The PEA President has therefore called on the government to activate a stand-down order for all public servants to protect their lives in these difficult times.
