Pari Village Facing Water Problems

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Pari Village in the Motu Koitabu area has been facing a severe water problem since June of last year.

This morning, the Pari community came together this morning to express their concerns over the water supply into their village.

Everywhere EMTV visited, people load their containers to travel to Sabama, Kaugere and Vabukori to pay and bring back water.

Female leader Geua Sasala told EMTV News they have suffered enough and authorities must assist them.

“The villages are travelling back into town by truck or boat to purchase water from other Motu Koitabu villages and nearby settlements to access water,” Sasala said.

The local health centre is closed and parents say the Primary school will be affected as well.

“Our children will not attend school because it’s been six months since the last running water,” said Mary Kidu, a local female leader.

The community will present a petition next week to the NCD Governor, Moresby South MP and Eda Ranu.
