OTML AWARDS TOP STUDENT

The Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has sponsored a Grade 12 student from the Kiunga Secondary School in North Fly District. Felix Daniel, from the local Ningerum tribe received a laptop and a flash drive which will help him to do  his academic work next year.

He was one of the top academic awardees in science subjects particularly Physics, Chemistry, Biology including Advance Mathematics taken in Upper Secondary Studies.

OTML Manager Social Responsibility and Sustainability Jesse Pile, presented the items worth over K3000.00 during the 23rd Grade 12 and 46th Grade 10 graduation ceremony held in Kiunga recently.

“Self discipline with positive mindset and prioritizing education will bring you a bright future. Embrace challenges and continue your education journey.” he said.

He told the students that changing Western Province and country as a whole lies on their hands, therefore, students should think critically on how they can bring develoment after completing their studies in respective tertiary institutions in the country.

OTML presented these items as an effort to help the awardee for effective academic work as students entering tertiary institutions are required to complete their assessment tasks using laptops.

Other organizations have also sponsored the Grade 10 and 12 academic awards motivating and encouraging students to continue to strive for excellence. Kiunga Secondary School graduated 142 Grade 12 and 287 Grade 10 students this academic year.

Pile added that OTML as a socially responsible mine is looking forward to participate in sponsoring students in coming years.
