New Ireland passes K271 Million 2020 Budget

The New Ireland Provincial Government has passed a K271 million budget in its last and final Assembly sitting for 2019 in Kavieng.

The biggest slice of the budget K103million goes to Infrastructure, K95 million goes to Recurrent, K35.9 million to the social sector, while K23 million to other Development Expenditure, Administration K7.7 million, to the Economic sector, K4.9 million and K580,000 to Finance and Planning.

While there is K2 million less of the 2019 budget, internal revenue increases by K4 million.

The first strategy of the New Ireland Government is to become more independent in revenue and expenditure. Through Autonomous arrangements and the second strategy is to work together to build a better New Ireland.

Governor Sir Julius Chan says the 2020 budget is focused to create internal revenue and strategize for a better New Ireland.

The budget was passed through a resounding vote despite the absence of Kavieng MP Ian Ling Stuckey, and Namatanai MP Walter Schnaubelt.
