Candidates for the Mt Hagen LLG elections officially became part ofthe elections’ hype whenthey nominated early last week.
Amongthem, a farmer named Opa Beas Wak, contestingthe Hagen Rural LLG president seat currently held by Wai Rapa.
His mission is to addressthe rising law and order problems if giventhe mandate.
John Tepka, a local businessman was a one term Rural LLG ward councillor. He has now looked to newer heights by running for Presidency.
Over 1,150 candidates were nominated for 305 councillor seats, while more than 80 candidates were nominated for 9 president seats in Western Highlands.
Amongthe candidates, 8 women are contestingthe July LLG elections.
LLG election manager Philip Telape saidthe nominations for both rural and urban seats were conducted peacefully.
Meantime, candidates and supporters were advised by provincial police commander, Martin Lakari, to carry out peaceful campaigns.
