MRFU Prepares For PNG Games

Two provincial teams from Morobe Rugby Union are not taking their opponents lightly in their lead up matches towards the PNG Games.

The Morobe Hammerheads and Tiger Sharks have been hard at training since last week.

Both teams played host to the Madang Malabos and the Goroka Kilituas in Lae last weekend.

The Morobe Hammerheads and Tiger sharks were hard at training here at the home of Morobe Rugby Union, SCRUM Oval , since last week.

Both teams hosted the Madang Malabos and the Goroka Kilituas respectively last weekend in their first games.

The Tiger Sharks and Kilituas game this weekend was deferred due to the Goroka Rugby grandfinals.

The Hammerheads will be led by youngsters Issac Chandrol, Darren Ipako and Buttler Morris when they take on the Madang Malabos this weekend.

Coach Michael Muriki says it’s the individual players’ commitment to training and discipline that will see them get selected for representative duties.

Team Morobe Rugby Union, also known as the Songans, have been the best in the grassroots games in previous years.

With a bulk of young talent on board, they are optimistic in taking out the gold medal at the 2014 PNG Games.

After defeating the Goroka Kilituas at home last weekend, the Hammerheads are set to take on the Madang Malabos in the return match.

Morobe Rugby Union, through its development programs, has been able to produce some of PNG's best rugby talents.

While some of them have been given exposure, many more are yet to be exposed in the PNG Games.

A tournament is scheduled to be played early next month to select players from other districts to be part of Team Morobe.
