Almost 200 people, both men and woman, attended the Men’s Cancer Awareness Workshop at the Grand Papua Hotel in Port Moresby on 9 November.
The workshop was hosted by Professor Olver, cancer researcher, bioethicist and medical oncologist.
Professor Olver is also a member of the Advisory Council for Cancer Australia.
The turnout at the Men’s Cancer Awareness Workshop was an encouraging sight for CEO of PNG Cancer Foundation, Dadi Toka Jnr.
Individuals, as well as organisations such as Bank South Pacific (BSP), Deloitte and DHL participated actively in the workshop.
Also present to officiate the workshop was Governor for NCD, Powes Parkop.
Parkop strongly attributed the increase in cancer development in Papua New Guineans to unhealthy lifestyle practices such as lack of exercise and buai consumption in particular.
Professor Olver encouraged group discussions and audience participation throughout the informative session.
The main focus of his workshop was to bring home the message that 1 out of 3 cancer cases were curable by improving lifestyle diseases.
Mr. Toka Jnr. said that the PNG Cancer Foundation was focusing the entire month of November on the education of men’s cancer awareness throughout Papua New Guinea.
